SYMBIOTECH26 – the Fourth International Symposium on Biotechnology
SYMBIOTECH26 – the Fourth International Symposium on Biotechnology (31st Biotechnology Conference with international participation) was held on March 12–13, 2026, at the Faculty of Agronomy in Čačak. The Symposium brought together researchers, academics, professionals, and representatives of the agri-food sector, and featured 105 scientific and professional papers across six scientific fields. Through plenary lectures, oral and poster presentations, participants exchanged knowledge, presented recent research findings, and strengthened professional connections, contributing to further scientific development and interdisciplinary cooperation.
The plenary programme addressed important contemporary topics, including scientific communication, education for sustainable development, innovative food processing, and the development of hybrid meat products. The second day featured the panel discussion “Agro-reset: How to Make Agriculture a ‘Cool’ Choice for Young People Again?”, which brought together representatives from academia and the agri-food sector to explore how to make agriculture more attractive to younger generations and encourage their active involvement in shaping its future. The symposium also hosted the 8th Assembly of the Alumni Club and a meeting of the Association of Faculties of Agricultural Sciences in Southeast Europe (ASFASSE), further strengthening academic collaboration and professional ties across the region.
Beyond the scientific programme, the mini fair of traditional food, drinks, and agricultural products celebrated local producers and regional traditions. The social programme continued with an organized visit to the village of Pridvorica and the distillery that produces the famous Serbian brandy “Jelički dukat,” where participants enjoyed a cellar tour, brandy tasting, and traditional local cuisine, experiencing the hospitality and gastronomic heritage of the Čačak region.
We are confident that SYMBIOTECH will continue to grow and strengthen its international character, building on the enthusiasm of its participants, the exchange of scientific ideas, and the friendships and partnerships formed over the years. We look forward to welcoming colleagues, collaborators, and new participants to future editions of the Symposium.
